Richard Violet Receives MACS Achievement Award

Maybe it’s his name that destined him to have a passion for flowers and plants, but whatever it is, Richard Violet just loves to grow things. Nominated by Unified Community Connections to receive the Maryland Association of Community Services Achievement Award, Richard was recognized for his helpfulness, friendly disposition and determination to do things on his own.

One of those things was to participate in a summer yard sale. In preparation, he turned part of his Community Living Group Home in Hagerstown into a garden. He painted flowerpots and collected antique cups and saucers in which he planted seeds and grew vines and flowers so he could sell them. He found he enjoyed gardening so much that he kept and cared for the plants that didn’t sell and turned to collecting and crushing soda cans for extra money instead. Congratulations to Richard for never being afraid to try something new!
