Mark Keats Winner of 2015 Samuel A. Tucker Memorial “Can Do” Award

Mark Keats, a participant in Unified Community Connection’s Supported Employment Program in Hagerstown, was award the 2015 Samuel A. Tucker Memorial “Can Do” Award on Saturday, October 3 by Baltimore Raven and Unified board member, O.J. Brigance, and his wife Chanda. Mark is described by Unified staff members as an amazing person that brings light, happiness, and joy to anyone that meets him. He is an extraordinary young man, who is highly motivated, hardworking, intelligent, dependable, and driven.
Mark is very independent and with supports in place has been able to maintain employment with Long John Silver’s at the Valley Mall in Hagerstown while also attending classes at Hagerstown Community College. In addition, he is very active in his community as he enjoys watching sporting events at the high school he attended. Mark is very social and well known in the community,and his warm smile and friendly “hello” are contagious.
Mark has a very subtle way of impacting others anad he is known for “killing people with kindness”. While working at the Valley Mall, he is exposed to a variety of people and management could not be happier with having Mark as an employee. People go to Long John Silver’s just to say hello to Mark. He receives glowing reviews from not only management, but, even more importantly, from the customers.
He works very hard, does his job well, studies for school, is independent in most acts of daily living, and all of this is done with a smile and positive attitude.
